Stripes, Squares, Butterflies and fun!

Wearing pants in winter can get a little boring. As you all know, I love to wear skirts and dresses, they make me feel free and pretty. So, why not wearing them on winter?

This time, I'm showing you how I wore this flattering, striped, pencil skirt. I wanted a simple yet feminine look. I mixed my skirt with a basic white crop top and added a trendy third piece: A light printed poncho. To make the look interesting and fun to wear.

I must say that this day wasn't cold, actually it was sunny with cool breezes every now and then. That's why my flirty skirt look worked.

Black stripes

Winter here in Guatemala is crazy, sometimes the days get really cold and some others are sunny with a cold drizzle. For this sunny winter days I like to wear jeans or some warm pants, so in case it rains I don't get my legs wet.

Hats always keep me warm and cozy. Plus, they have the ability to add lots of style to a plain outfit. So, I wanted to keep this look really simple. I don't like to over power a look by adding too much stylish pieces. I'm a one stylish piece per outfit kinda girl.

Fur and Claws

This winter began a little weird the days begin being really cold and suddenly it gets hot. For those extreme changes, personally I need versatile pieces: They have to be warm but also fresh and easy to wear. Like this high waisted pleated skirt and turtle neck crop top.

One of the warmest pieces I own in my closet are my fur vests. I believe one of the best ways to complete any wither outfit, other than adding a coat is adding a fur vest. And never say no to knee high socks ever. They are super comfy, warm and look great with mini skirts and shorts.

Dress up!

I have to admit that I love dressing up! I really enjoy taking my time when I get ready for a special occasion.

For this outfit in particular, I was invited to my best friend's graduation. Her mother had organized a lovely brunch at a pretty outdoor restaurant.

I hate wearing the predictable dress every girl uses here in Guatemala. So I decided to give a twist.  This is how I wore a cop top a fancy way (at least for my style and the occasion, it worked.) I think the key to add sophistication to a crop top, is mixing it with the right pieces: a pencil skirt, fancy high heels and edgy jewerly.

This skirt is made of neoprene and faux leather, it's super comfy and I just love the print on it. My heels are made of elastic bands laced up magically so they look super feminine and sophisticated.

All those summer days are gone..

Sunny bright days have become into beautiful grey days. I love both sunny and grey days, but grey days make me happier for some reason..  I love going for a walk on cold nights, reading a book on rainy mornings, watching a movie on a drizzling afternoon. And a lot more dull things.

Anyway,  I want to share with you guys one of my favorite summer outfits I got to wear, these last summer days. Those days were super hot, so I needed to wear shorts and a breeze blouse.

Grandpa sweater

As you all know I love to wear over sized clothes. They have the ability to add a cool vibe to every outfit, no matter what piece it is. If it's over sized, it's going to look great!

The key to rock an over sized piece, is to create a balance. For example: Whenever I wear this super comfy over sized cardigan, I wear it with more fitted clothes underneath: A basic crop top and a pair of high waisted shorts. (the shorts are from Dresscode).

To add a sassy touch, I chose to wear these feminine pumps from Wanderlust. They also make my legs look longer, which is a double plus!

Meet me at the Prime Room.

One of my favorite things to wear is black tops with black bottoms. You can never go wrong with it, it looks super chic, elegant and just amazing.

I like wearing black everything, but sometimes I like to change it a bit, by adding white accessories.
Mixing black and white is a timeless combo, it's classy and you can wear it in any season. Adding metallic details gives so much more style to a b&w outfit.

To keep the outfit simple and classy, I like to wear pointy pumps. These type of heels have the ability to look amazing no matter what you wear. That's why I always say "When in doubt, wear pointy pumps."

I loved wearing this look, I felt such a classy, badass, gal! It's probably one of my favorite outfits I've ever worn.

Special thanks to the amazing photographer Pablo Estrada Segura, for the terrific pictures!

The grandma, grey cardigan

I think the god of basics has to be the cardigan! It has been a basic even before basics where invented. This is one of those weird pieces that looks great on babies, kids, teens, adults and even great grandma's!! Honestly which other piece has that ability? It's just amazing!!

The cardigan can be a little tricky, either you look like a kid or like a mom. (Yep! I was called "ma'am" a few times before, just like the blazer! )  The key to wear it young, is to keep your inner outfit with edgy yet simple pieces.
Here are my 3 personal rules when I wear a cardigan.

     1. Wear a tank top or a sleeveless top. There's nothing more uncomfortable than wearing a thick  sleeve.
Never ever, wear it with a button down shirt or dress! This immediately ages me.

    2. Wear easy going bottoms. It can be either any kind of shorts, cool jeans or a trendy skirt. Never a pencil skirt or trousers. They also immediately age me.

     3. Roll up a bit the sleeves, to give an effortless vibe to the whole look. ( I might break this rule sometimes, depending on the look I want to wear.)

For the shoes I don't have a rule. I literally wear any kind of shoe. For this look I wanted something more comfortable, cause I was going for a walk with my dog (a husky). So I really needed super comfy shoes for a busy hot summer day.

I loved this look, It not only worked for my morning walk with my dog, but also worked for a summer lunch and later when I grabbed some ice-coffee with friends.

The boyish crop top

For tonight's post I am going to talk about the crop top. Although a lot of people don't consider it a basic, for me, it is. Not only because it's a really strong trend, but also it's very versatile and easy to wear.

There are a bunch of crop top styles, some of them are flattering some aren't. The key to find the perfect one, is to know your own body. Personally the ones that fit me great are the ones that are really fitted to my body, or the ones that are a little over-sized. Because I'm busty I can not wear those that have a lot of embellishment or flares. They make me look heavy and squared.

For this look I chose a boyish crop top, it's like a regular t-shirt, so it's not to over- sized. To add sassiness to the look, I mixed with a neoprene, tropical print skirt. (This kinds of skirts are amazing, they fit great and go with almost everything.)

I wet to the zoo that day, so I really needed comfy shoes. I decided to wore my Pony sneakers, although at the end of the day I realized they weren't so comfy after all..

This was how I mixed and matched my boyish crop top. It was an easy going look, with an effortless vibe of course.

The distressed denim skirt

Tonight I'm going to write about my basic denim pencil skirt. I find pencil skirts really easy to wear, they go well with almost anything.

What I like to do, when wearing a pencil skirt is:

                                 1. If the skirt is not so figure fitting like this one, I like to wear it with fitted tops.
                                 2. I always wear them with heels. So my legs don't look short. Sometimes I break
this rule wearing it with some sporty sneakers, but never ever with flats.

I wore this distressed pencil skirt with a black basic crop top. This one is made of neoprene so it's really fitted, almost like a bodycon. I goes really well with any high-waisted bottom, if they aren't to short.

I had to work that day, so I needed to wear comfy heels. This ankle straps are super comfortable, I can walk all day with them.

This look was simple and easy to wear, I must say this kinds of skirts are not very comfortable though. If you are used to give long steps when walking, you'll probably wont like wearing them. But for me they always work really well for my kind of job.

Wearing down a "LBD"

Today I tried another thing of my "10 things to try this month" list: "wear a lbd in an effortless way".  I wanted a challenge so I decided to wear a basic and dressy sheath dress. The challenge was to really wear it down, so the look would be casual and sporty.

Today I had run a lot of errands, so I really wanted a super comfortable outfit. I just knew I had to wear my dressy black dress for this.

I must say it wasn't easy at all! This dress is very dressy and uptight, so I had to combine it with sporty pieces to achieve a  sproty, casual effortless look.

I started by adding layers to the dress: I chose an over-sized crop shirt with fringes and a distressed denim vest with little studs here and there.

To top all this pieces off, I put aside my heels for today, and decided to wear my super comfortable new balance sneakers. They add this pop of color in an edgy way, I love to wear them with "all black" outfits.

I like to think I really pull it off. I felt really good, it was like I was keeping a secret with my dressy dress underneath this sporty look.
